It seems everyone is now getting up from the floor after receiving their post-carbon tax power bill. Screams of WTF!!!! are resounding from Hobart to Darwin and Perth to Sydney.

Our best guess on hundreds of complaints is increases of between 25% and 40%, some much higher. Most claim they have used less power this winter and increases on this scale are confounding.

Gillard claims only 10% of the increase is carbon tax. Power companies won’t contradict her claim for fear of copping a “don’t-bag-the-carbon-tax” $1.2million fine.

We asked the Prime Minister’s Office what the increase was for The Lodge. We received no reply, so we thought the PM wasn’t too happy about her increase either. Then we realised, “silly us, she won’t be paying for her power bill anyway”.

Whatever component the carbon tax, it seems people are switching off heaters and pool pumps in droves.

“How many other nasty little surprises does she have in store for us?”, asked one anguished correspondent, “and the planet hasn’t cooled at all!”

Predictably, Gillard’s ill-conceived carbon tax theorem is now somewhere between disarray and dissolution.

She may have told the truth after all when she uttered, “there will be no carbon tax under a Government I lead”.
