Some climate doomsters take comfort in the fact that Margaret Thatcher was an early believer in man-made global warming.

It is true that in 1988, Margaret Thatcher was one of the first to speak publicly about the dangers of man-made global warming. Like so many other politicians she had been conned by a bureaucrat, Sir Crispin Tickell, whose first contribution to the climate debate was a book in 1977 warning that the globe was cooling. When we got a decade of global warming instead of his forecast cooling, he switched to become an ardent warmist and managed to plant the idea of doomsday warming in Thatcher’s ear.

Like many politicians, Thatcher was alert to the use of any bit of fear-mongering to help her pet agendas.

Thatcher saw the Britain she loved being held to ransom by the powerful Soviet-loving, strike-happy National Union of Mineworkers. She became determined to break their control of Britain’s major energy supply. She saw nuclear power as a useful option to reduce the over-dependence on coal; and climate alarmism as a useful tool to mobilise public opinion against coal (and the unions).

She had no idea what a monster she was unleashing, and lived to regret supporting what became a pointless costly war on carbon fuels.

Thatcher was a scientist and later realised that man-made climate alarm had no real basis and was just a front for promotion of world government. Writing in 2003 she totally rejected the whole warmist argument.

So the doomsters cannot take comfort from the fact that Margaret Thatcher was a warmist, because, in one of her few about-turns, she also became and remained, one of the early sceptics.

Have a look at this article. It shows how dishonest the global warming theorists are. I call them theorists because it is only a theory with no proven evidence. Only a lot of inaccurate predictions which have never come to fruition. http://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/02/07/friday-funny-two-guys-with-a-ruler-blow-up-the-white-house-global-warming-video-claims/

A great Lady, the best of the best. Australia ended up with a woman like Gillard. Gillard was educated at Owley School on the O 10 (TCN) network.

Florida is snowed in!! Yet another contradiction to the warmist alarmists!! Who are notably silent, trying to redoctor their bullshit philosophy to suit their means! Viv I am glad that you mention the One World Government aspect in all of this! The true motivation behind these leftist scum! The ideology long disputed, and denied, ridiculed and scoffed at by the left. Brian Wilshire (2GB) yet again vindicated! To all others venting gheir spleens at Margaret Thatcher. She had more grace, courage and integrity than any of the current mob in GB, especially the rabid left! I bet any pom would… Read more »

In the late 1970s the U.K. had huge stocks of coal. The miners thought they deserved higher wages but economic reality commanded that less coal miners were needed and the union would not agree to reduced employment in the industry. Even bigger and better strikes did not overcome economic sense. It is real not sensible continuing to employ people who do not contribute to society’s needs. Even after a whole year strike, the U.K. had sufficient energy to meet its needs. Somehow I don’t think in coming years adequate energy will be availble in the U.K. and that may cause… Read more »

Back when John Howard, Margaret Thatcher and others accepted the theory of global warming it was very fashionable and acceptance was politically wise. In light of subsequent discussion and experience the flaws in the theory were exposed and it changed to climate change because nobody can argue the climate change is not happening. It would happen anyway but the con artists hitched their waggon to this certainty to their own benefit ad the gullible follow but they still quote Howard and Thatcher.

My god!! The name”Sir Crispin Tickell” jumps right out of a Shakespearean farce. A real pity that the Iron Maiden did not encompass him first. Also a shame that the one western politician in the last 50 years with bollocks was a female.(a shame on men)

You’re being very kind to Thatcher, Viv. She was a heartless lair (this is not a political statement. Obama is the same). She decided she wanted nuclear power, and to achieve it, she funded scientists to come up with false findings and spread it around until it reached an unsuspecting public. She destroyed the livelihoods of many workers for the sake of her ideology. She was cruel, mendacious, arrogant, mediocre and overrated.

in this case, Thatcher’s cool clear scientific reasoning, analysis and objectivity won the day and we can only hope that the same reasoning will prevail among the current day leftoid-warmists.

…yes Viv…your correct…Margret brought all that “acid rain” stuff…and that Europe will have rain droplets with black soot…it was as you say to champion the virtues of “Nuclear Energy” and circumvent the coal unions….I totally support Nuclear Energy and its the way to go…but we have so much coal…and that is the cheapest form of energy at the moment….so…ok…bring on “Carbon Capture & Storage” if its economically viable….and in time…other break through will come about…and if its cheaper…then that new technology will take over…but to force issues….brings about economic disasters and poverty…the only ones that benefit from this…are the ones… Read more »
