I’ve a 1tb SSD and a 2tb HDD and that’s just a laptop. On a desktop LP should have a RAID setup, and preferably removable drives to auto-backup and store elsewhere (never trust “the cloud”).

All rugby is gay, It’s how big blokes get to cop a feel, without looking too obvious.

I’ve enjoyed participating too, guys. Love the yarns…we could all write books on our experiences, but I doubt Kim Kardashian, Justin Beiber or Katy Perry fans would be interested…and they’d all have their faces glued to smart phones or iPads checking blogs and socialising on Instagram, Facebook (or get f@#$$% book) or Twitter.

I spent 18 years in IT, our first PC’s were M/S AT’s, 30mb hard disk, 640kb memory. I can remember when a company brought out a 9gigabyte scsi hard drive, the ultimate, a bargain at only $9000,00

Gazman, I think you had the same Toshiba laptop I had. Unfortunately mine had an unfortunate accident three weeks after I bought it. While attending a trade fair in Leipzig, East Germany, the chap helping me set up our stand went to pick up some stuff off the back seat of the car and kneeled on the laptop….sadly, the screen was kaput and cost me another $US1,000 to get it repaired and replaced. Fortunately, I didn’t have to pay!!!

That’s sad. A computer going down permanently is like loosing a very good friend. May your new computer be as faithful and long serving.

You had it good. I wish I had 40 Mb. My Toshiba laptop in 1989 was $3500 and it came with a 20Mb hard drive. Ran my little business with it for nearly 10 years. It never missed a beat until the internal battery clapped out. I wish now I had kept the old thing for posterity.

Larry, that vision is a fitting tribute to a machine that served this site so well, compared to those at the MSM combined which I’d gladly consign to a scrap heap, their current data included.

Your right , Phantom, all our computers seemed to have been about $3000 but the difference from the old 286 are worlds apart. But the computer that you would really like to have bought has always been $5000.

Hi Phantom – we had the same 286 bought in 1990 and like you we went for the colour screen, most had a black and white screen – it was followed by the 386 in 1992.

Maybe one of those random word generators that our pollies use might be the go?

Hey Larry, don’t get a ‘desktop’ that is now old hat. Get a laptop and have the portability should you ever have the need to be mobile or go to hospital.

For a master of the ‘abacus’, you wrote some ripper articles. Can’t wait to see what a modern tablet will do for you.
